CPE 1012 Understanding Project Management Tools

  • Instructor: Dr. Wesley E. Donahue, PE, PMP

Some of these tools are used to develop plans, some to help your project team work together. Some tools are used for tracking progress and expenses while others are used for communication. Some tools are used to balance the work being done, some to determine how closely your results match the project goals, and still more others determine whether or not the project was profitable for your organization.

This course provides basic definitions and demonstrates the use of key tools for planning, coordinating, and monitoring project work. At the end of this course you should be able to:

  • List at least three tools useful for defining projects.
  • Describe the rules of brainstorming.
  • Explain how to breakdown project work activities.
  • Create a communication plan and matrix for a specific project.
  • Identify two financial analysis tools used for making both short-term and long-term decisions.
